 Update - 09/10/2008
UPDATE:

The water was great.  Went with friends.  They were impressed with my choice of restaurants.

The guy to my right was so happy that he wanted to give the waitress a rating.  Unfortunately, he paid with a credit card. The credit card slip didn't include a rating.

The waitress tried to solve the problem.  She took the cash-payer's bill to receive the rating from Mr. Credit Card. Just before we left, Mr. Cash couldn't find his bill.  Decided his lunch must be FREE.  Oh, woe is me!  The waitress came to his aid.  The bill got paid.

Hope this GREAT WAITRESS is feeling fine, lost her allergies, and WE'LL BE BACK TO DINE.

The French Dip sandwich is spectacular.  So good, in fact, that I hate to gripe about a place which should be visited by all beef eaters.  However, I HAVE A BEEF!

I couldn't wait to go have this sandwich at lunch.  I asked politely for a glass of water and received it quickly.  UGH!  Have you tasted water that is just plain foul, or is that FOWL??  Well, that's what the waitress served.  I tried again and asked her  politely for regular tap water.  She responded that she could sell me a bottle of water.  She wouldn't tap her tap for me.  She told me fountain water was the only option unless I wanted a bottle of water or a coke.

What is interesting is that I bought the coke, but quess what?  Are you ready for the punch in the mouth line?  The coke was made with fountain water.

Solution?  Fox and Hound needs to clean their fountain lines and check their filters more often.  The Prime Rib sandwich was delicious.  The water left me with a bad taste in my mouth for the whole affair.

BRAVO for Bravo!  When ABQ Uptown hit the Albuquerque scene, Bravo bounced along with fantastic servings of delicious Italian food, great staff, and enough atmosphere to do other Italian restaurants under.

Lobster Bisque Soup has flavor plus.  Mama's Lasagne is served in a dish large enough to bathe your newborn.  Eggplant Parmesan is good, and then we come to desserts.  If you haven't time for the Italian meal, just order dessert.  The presentation will make you take notes and the varied menu will have you on your knees for the recipes.  Ask for a box for a take-home addition.  Hope I'll see you there.

Pack into the Pit with the Lobos to view the spectacular dunks of J.R. Giddens who made his career high of 36 points at the WY Cowboy game.  Add to that the two back-to-back wins which netted a combined 85 points over the last two opponents and kudos to the first-year coach, Steve Alford, for his talented work.

While you are watching all these records stock pile, grab a delicious bite of goodness such as a Lobo Dog, some Nachos, Twizzlers, or Hot Tamales!  Then, head back to your seat to enjoy this treat and catch the live half-time fun!  You just might grab a wave from Lobo Louie or his counterpart, Lobo Lucy.  At the least, you'll have an exciting night with your family and friends.

There'll be even more activity with plans to remodel the Pit beginning in Summer 2008.  We aren't the Pros, but we're where ABQ goes!

Wild Hog Cafe

Wild Hog Cafe will add some spicy to your BBQ lunch.  They have squeeze bottles with various spices to liven up your sandwich.  A regular beef brisket sandwich comes with a garnish for about $6.  Sadness:  the apple pie that feeds two was not available.

The decor consisted mainly of  trophies from Arkansas which serves only to remind you that it is a franchise import from the South.

The food was A-OK, just enough to make me hogwild.   Try it!  You may like it.

Chili's

Chili's was a convenient place for chicken tacos, guacamole, and a coke lunch.  It was clean.  The waitress was pleasant and efficient with her refills.  I think this is a go-back-to restaurant in the fast-food category.  It is not spectacular as a unique spot or one filled with ambiance, but it does have its place in my future.

We were presented with a survey when we finished lunch.  Here is mine.  Its length seems overdone, and it takes time to complete it.  I question that it is of much use in changing Chili's corporate procedures.

Yen Ching Restaurant

The smooth flow of hungry buffet lovers made for a happy gathering for lunch.  Although Yen Ching serves no sushi, its vast array of Chinese, Korean, and Szechwan treats should make all happy.  For $8.50 I did a lot of sampling and enjoyed an ice tea, too.

I thought the Egg Flower Soup tasted especially good, but the whole meal was satisfying.

Some remodeling would be a positive, but the food made you overlook any dated decor.

Flying Star Cafe

Long lines of people waiting for service never end at Flying Star.  Popularity abounds.  One of favorite things about Flying Star is the interesting types of people that frequent the place.   It is a looker's paradise with a somewhat Bay City feel.

Last night at 10:30PM the food selections had dwindled to a desperate level because earlier customers had snatched up all of the great desserts.  I was looking forward to some carrot cake, keylime pie, cheese cake, or the bread pudding.  The treats had done a disappearing act.  I ended up with the Apple Pie.  Someone overlooked that piece. It was simply delicious.  Thanks to Jen, our counter help, for the courteous service and for warming the pie!

My wish for this cafe is that the owners would add a second story.  The location of Flying Star would allow diners a gorgeous view of the Sandia Mountains--and another place to wait for all the yummy fare to make it out of the oven into our waiting plates.

Gecko's Bar & Tapas

Don't expect to see your Nob Hill Geckos when you go to the Academy NE version. Some differences which will strike you immediately are the size of the restaurant, the huge, South Beach style mural inside, and the subtle inclusion of televisions in the bar area.  The similarities remain with the menu filled with good food and the same fine service.

Your experience would be further enhanced if the patio area was developed to create more privacy, more ambience, and  a greater invitation to enjoy food and visit leisurely.

Hint, hint, to the management, please put those delicious ribs back on the menu!

Are you planning a large group get-together?  We did this not too long ago at Monroe's.  Their policy eliminated all embarrassing possiblities!  Each person ordered what he wanted, got a separate check, and could proceed to the cashier when he chose to pay.  There was no argument about who was to pay, tipping, or place to handle the whole affair discretely.  In addition, the food was delicious, hot , and courteously served.  Thanks, Miguel!

Who can resist an Irish Pub atmosphere replete with a glowing  fireplace, brown leather benches, and conversation-provoking turn of the century photgraphs?  If you want more than ambience, you are in for a terrific surprise!  Try a Bookmaker, a prime rib sandwich au jus with some yummy tidbits to tantalize your taste buds.  Fish and chips is another favorite, but we loved the Paddy O'Malley Melt.  You may hear an  Irish tune, but , for sure, you'll hear a lot of compliments and leave dancing an Irish jig.
